OPEN TO WORK FROM 1ST OCTOBER 2025 •

Im Bryan, a Product Designer from Scotland

For over 15 years I've been crafting digital products and building experiences that users love.

Background

Since moving to Tokyo in 2023, I’ve grown in the role of design leader — empowering small teams through improved processes, amplifying their design capabilities.

From 2009, I’ve shaped digital experiences at startups, scale-ups, and established global brands.

I’ve supported over 200 million gamers at Rockstar Games, defined a design system for 18 product teams at Trustpilot, and led the design for dozens of business applications for companies around the world.

I taught myself basic web development in high-school. I would later rely on these skills to build hobby projects, and in turn, as the foundation for my career. Through exploration, implementation, and from the experience shared by various colleagues, I also developed my design skills.

I’m excited by emerging technologies, having introduced responsive web design and design systems to various production teams. Recently I’ve been exploring how AI can improve design processes, and I want to put my animation degree to good use by experimenting more with video, motion graphics and 3D modelling.

Away from my desk, I enjoy running and cycling, and try to balance outdoor pursuits with science-fiction media, and video games. I love travelling to new places, and always bring my camera. Living in Tokyo for the past 2 years, I’ve had an incredible time exploring a new county and learning everything I can about Japanese culture.

I’m looking for a new opportunity, either in Tokyo or returning to Edinburgh, with preference for remote or hybrid roles. If you’re interested in working with me, and think I’d make a good addition to your team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

My Values

Growth

I believe in always learning and experiencing new things as a form of discovery. These memories contribute to who I am, and give me a wider perspective in everything I do.

Automation

Reducing repetitive tasks at home, and work, through automation to save time and effort. I want more time to concentrate on difficult challenges, so find ways to improve processes wherever I can.

Balance

Work. Rest. Play. Making sustainable decisions and taking care of my health. Likewise, taking enough time to rest and recover (aspirational). Because there are only 24 hours in a day.

Kindness

Forming relationships built on empathy, whether it’s directly or through my work, I try to remain considerate towards others through my actions and words.

Social Impact

I contribute community initiatives. Whether supporting indy artists, my martial arts class, or my local horticultural society, I’ve shared my time and skills to support their members. I’m also a design mentor…

Outreach

Mentoring has become one of the most rewarding parts of my own personal growth.

Over the past year, I’ve supported designers from around the world, helping them find jobs, and grow their confidence. It’s a way for me to give back, share what I’ve learned, and stay connected to the challenges others face at different stages in their careers.

Every conversation brings new perspectives, and I couldn’t be happier when my mentees share details of their success.
